Lawyer.se presents at EVA

lucasEVA

Earlier in November, our lawyer Lucas Rossi had the opportunity to speak at the Argentine Videogame Conference, EVA. We spoke with him about his experience.

Hi Lucas! What was it like speaking at EVA?

It was so much fun! People were so invested in the talk, and I could tell by how everyone looked expectantly to my following sentence. I always enjoy myself when I can speak about something I do, that I would usually consider boring, and other people find it interesting as well. I consider it a personal victory to see so many people interested in coming to hear about legal matters. The organization was nice and helped us set up everything, so a big shout-out to them, and a big thank you for giving me this opportunity.

For those who couldn’t attend, what are the biggest takeaways from your presentation?

I know nobody wants to see a lawyer unless they need it, but sometimes it is better to prevent than to heal, and that is what a good lawyer can do. A consultation or asking for help with agreements can make a huge difference in your business, and almost always, it is better economically to catch a problem before it happens than to solve it. The world of Intellectual Property laws is quite convoluted, and having some guidance and rules set will help you navigate it safely. Protecting your work is not the only thing you need to consider, but exploiting it, too!

Did you receive any questions after, and if so, what were they?

We received quite a lot, actually. And what made me glad was that all the questions were related not only to the general theme of the speech but also to what I said, which meant everyone was really listening! The questions were varied, and went from copyright to patents, all the themes I spoke about.

Sadly, we only had fifteen minutes to reply to them, so we had to stop the Q&A before all questions were answered (if you were there and are reading this, do not hesitate to write me!)

What did you learn at EVA this year?

Argentina is growing so fast! The amount of video games this time in EVA was terrific, and not just quantity, but quality, too. All the video games looked neat, and I wish I had had time to try them all (I will surely do so eventually on my own, ha!). It is incredible the talent here, and I know the world will soon know it too. Whether you want a cozy game to relax (Treetopians), some challenge (Cards of Prophecy), or spook yourself (Tenebris Somnia), you have it all. And yes, I may have played favorites there.

Nice work, Lucas!
