Lawyer.se Attends: Gamescom LATAM

At the beginning of the month, São Paulo, Brazil, played the host of this year’s biggest videogame conference in Latin America: Gamescom Latam. Attending the conference on behalf of Lawyer.se were our two Argentinian team members, Project Manager Daiana Naselli and lawyer Lucas Rossi.

Over five days, the two ran between conference halls and the meeting area, trying out upcoming videogames from Latin America and across the world, and meeting prospective clients.

«Gamescom is always amazing,» said Lucas who was there for his second time. «The feeling when you arrive and you see all the videogames and everyone playing — it’s awesome.»

There was no shortage of developers looking for legal advice at the conference. Something both Daiana and Lucas noticed was a desire to work with law firms that specialize in videogame law.

«The most common thing that we heard in meetings was that it’s so hard to get a lawyer who understands us and actually knows what a videogame is,» Daiana explained.

She added that some also had questions about meeting with publishers.

They also met César Izurieta, President of ADVEC — the Association of Video Game Developers of Ecuador —who despite the country’s small videogame industry, was intent on finding ways to grow it.

«He was really doing it because he loves videogames and seemed really honest in wanting the industry to prosper,» Lucas noted.

«The main feeling that I got from the the event was that everyone was trying to support each other,» Daiana said.

Daiana and Lucas also found time to try some new and upcoming games, too. One game they both enjoyed was Sol Cesto, by Goblinz Studio, which releases into early access at the end of May.

«It’s exceptional, the art design is super unique and the gameplay is something that I’ve never seen in a video game,» Daiana said.
