Meet the team: Lucas Rossi

Time to meet our newest lawyer: Lucas Rossi!

Lucas, born in Argentina and currently residing in Buenos Aires, is Lawyer.se’s most recent addition to the team. Not only is he a lawyer, as well as an avid gamer and tabletop games player, he is also an Olympic athlete in canoe slalom.

Beginning his international career in 2012, Lucas competed in his first Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 (the delayed 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics). He credits his father for first getting into the sport; he, too, used to compete, and when the sport nearly died out in Argentina, he was integral to reviving it.

But juggling being a full-time professional athlete with working as a lawyer isn’t always easy. Nowadays, he usually practices early in the morning or late in the afternoon. But he appreciates the flexible work schedule he has with Lawyer.se.

Fittingly, he got into law through a videogame franchise: “Ace Attorney.”

“I was completely amazed by it. And I regret nothing because I actually love it.”

Lucas went on to study law and accounting at college. He maintained a strong interest in videogames — it had been a hobby of his since childhood — but realized he probably would never create his own game.

“But I thought: I can still be a part of that world,” he said. And so, he went into videogame law.

He finds intellectual property the most intriguing part of the field.

“Nowadays [a videogame] is considered more or less like a work of art,” he noted. “And to me that’s really good because all my life I felt the same. All the music they had, the art, the images, the story — it’s better than a movie.”

Lucas is currently training for his qualification race in April 2024. He hopes to get another shot at the Olympics.

“It was a magical and awesome experience, and I would love to repeat it,” he said.
